If you
really knew
what your
in-house
projects
cost, you
wouldn' t
insist on
doing them
in-house.

The Misconception of Saved Money
The in-house projects you tackle to cut corners might be costing you more than you think. Many people think they are saving money by printing marketing materials on their office inkjet. Chances are though, if you counted the cost of paper, ink and time invested into laying out that semi-professional design you would flip at the actual cost (almost TWICE what you thought you were paying). Instead, let us show you how we can save you money by taking your in-house marketing up, up and away to a more cost effective level.

Actual Cost
Lets say you need 1000 black and white flyers to advertise a company event. Not having an actual copy machine to run them on, or the budget for a professional print job, you decide its cheapest to print them on your office HP inkjet. Lets see how much these flyers cost you:
  • A standard black HP inkjet print cartridge has the life of about 600 pages and costs between $25 and $35 each (assuming you purchase new cartridges instead of taking your chances with recycled refills.

  • Multiuse paper (you don't stock the lightweight copy paper - you don't have a copy machine, remember!) should run you roughly $5 for 500 sheets.

  • Design time - this could vary depending on skill, readiness of information for the flyer, and number of interruptions due to required daily duties. Lets say 2-4 hours.

So by the time you fiddled around in Microsoft Publisher looking for free clipart, tried to insert a photo and couldn't figure out how, and then had technical difficulties when your printer choked on several sheets of paper... how much did your 100 flyers cost you? Looks like somewhere in the ballpark of $100 - and that's not including the lost sales your business incurred while you were in the back room trying to be an in-house marketer!

I'll call your $100 and raise you one blue chip
What you didn't realize is that you were already willing to spend 10 cents each on your black and white flyers. Our professional design team could have created an eye-catching layout and the same printing would have cost you nearly half. For a measly 2.5 cents more per advertisement, we could have done beautiful glossy 4"x6" full color postcards. If you took the time to think about what your in-houe printing cost you wouldn't even consider it anymore!

Don't get sucked into in-house marketing! Also beware of cheapie printers that put their logo on the backside of your materials as trade for discounted pricing. Every business card, flyer and postcard you hand out reflects on your company and your level of professionalism. Not only are you overpaying by marketing in-house, but you may also be damaging your image.
